IWC Portuguese Chronograph in All Black, crafted from Ceratanium® I've always thought of the IWC Portuguese as an elegant chronograph or a simple, pure timepiece. However, today, IWC Schaffhausen has introduced an all-black Portuguese chronograph crafted from Ceratanium, completely overturning my perception. Yes, think about it. Previously, the lightweight and scratch-resistant Ceratanium was only used in IWC Pilot's Watches. I'm not sure if the people at IWC have read Lex's 2021 article about the Portuguese Chronograph. In it, he pointed out that the IWC Portuguese Chronograph belongs to the kind of watch that is "seemingly plain yet exquisitely crafted." Due to its almost unchanged design, timeless proportions, and superb craftsmanship, it withstands the test of time better than those watches that constantly strive for innovation. If they've read this article, it might prompt them to make some radical changes to the typically classic style of the Portuguese Chronograph series.

To make it easier for you to understand this new IWC Portuguese Chronograph, let me first talk about what has been retained. For example, the case size hasn't changed. This means its diameter remains 41mm, and its thickness is still 13.1mm, the latter being particularly satisfying for an automatic chronograph.
This leads to the movement inside the new Portuguese Chronograph. It's still the same Caliber 69355. This self-winding column-wheel chronograph movement vibrates at 28,800 vibrations per hour, has 27 jewels, and a 46-hour power reserve. So far, everything seems very familiar. Even the dial layout remains unchanged, including the prominent Arabic numeral hour markers, the vertically arranged subdials, and the printed text at 3 and 9 o'clock. But now, let's look at its new all-black appearance.
